Fund Raising Gala
In 1999, Hillsborough Fashions, with a group of other volunteer
businesses and individuals, worked together to bring the first of 10
annual Galas to raise funds for the Katherine Wright Wellness Centre,
and the breast health programs of SERHA, Moncton, N.B. This year
marks the Gala's 12th year in funding vital breast cancer serves, education
and treatment.
Originally, we had hoped to raise $100,000, but after 11 years, we
have generated over $385,000 for these programs and services.
Larry Nelson, President, Lounsbury Co. Ltd. Describes the
annual fundraiser, as "a terrifically touching event."
From the onset, our Gala has comprised a memorable evening of
entertainment and fashion.
Just as the Gala is as much about music and entertainment as it is in
drawing awareness to breast cancer and the need to raise monies for
services, education and treatment, it is also identified with the
annual auction manned by internationally recognized auctioneer Steve
Liptay, The Great Northern Auction Company Ltd. Annually, a
huge array of original paintings, unique and original artisan pieces,
exclusive jewelry, spa packages, vacation packages and the latest in
fashion wear, are auctioned to an appreciative audience. All
told, the evening from reception to closing is a night to remember!
This year, the "Angel Draw" enhanced our fundraising initiatives. "near
and dear" is the emergency "Angel Fund." The
"Angel Fund" provides financial relief for our neighbors,
family and friends during treatment for expenses such as child care,
transportation costs, wigs and prosthesis.
The Gala is an event that is both upbeat and inspirational attracting
and retaining internationally recognized corporate sponsors such as
French Dressing Jeanswear (FDJ). FDJ, one of Canada's premier
design houses is applauded not only for its fine ladies' apparel but
for its heroic efforts in fighting breast cancer, contributing
hundreds of thousands of dollars in helping this important cause.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF), since its inception in
1986 has awarded in excess of $9.6 million for the most advanced and
productive breast cancer research and educational initiatives in
Canada, both regionally and nationally. We are honored with the
sponsorship of the CBCF, Atlantic Chapter. The Gala is so
appreciative of all its dedicated sponsorships.
Equally important, it is an event that individuals from all stations
of life want to be a part of. On behalf of generous sponsors and
community support, over 200 dedicated volunteers and committee
members, and Neal and myself, we thank you for uniting in our hope of
one day rejoicing when a cure is discovered for this devastating disease.
"Together" our vision will be realized. Fundraising
monies have enabled and supported needed and valuable initiatives.
In addition to our annual Hillsborough Fashions Gala, we support many other fund raising efforts in the Greater Moncton Area. (I.E. Fashion shows for local churches, hospital groups and community organizations)
